Over the next few months we will be working hard with Chef Matthew Eversman to create a space as characteristic as his food.
Family heritage abounds in this design for a farmhouse in western North Dakota.
The house, beginning with the original family homestead house, has been added to and remodeled multiple times over the last 80 years. The original small homestead house (approximately 12’ x 16’) is now hard to discern, but it’s spirit is very evident.
A third generation family member, in turn, is modernizing and enlarging the family home for the next generation.
The first steps of the job involved thoughtful master planning. The owners had a list of desires that they wished to included. We were able to work through this list and arrange the spaces to create a new floor plan that aligned the spaces to have good circulation as well as a private and public separation
Creating a home that was energy efficient was very important to the family. We were able to help develop a wall system that gave them the tightly insulated house that could sustain the hard North Dakota winters. The system starts at the foundation where we were able to use ICF’s ( Insulated Concrete Forms). These ICF’S help insulate the floor slab form the cold ground temperature. The wall system itself was also designed to be energy efficient as we were able to use closed cell spray foam system that provides a far superior insulting barrier. The system was also able to create a drainage plane for the exterior finishes. This plane will allow for the exterior siding to dry fully prolonging its life.
A high level of exterior detailing was need for this project. We were able to work through many of areas with detailed sketches and drawings.
The Sharp Residence is a charming old house of the edge of Northwestern campus. Built in the early 1900’s this Queen Ann styled house provided some unique challenges. The owners wished to open up the rear of the house and combine three separate room into a more unified space. Our solution moved the kitchen and created a centered the room around a new large piece of casework .
Parallel Architecture had the privilege of working with the Boy Scout Troop 916 out of Evanston, IL. They were looking to equip their new camping trailer with some creative storage ideas. Parallel was able to work closely with the boys and guide them as they designed the space. Above the older boys of the troop work with Andy and Jared on some space planning exercises.
After a few meeting and different options, We were able to come up with a final design. The boys helped price the chosen system and then presented it to the local leader for approval
Once getting approval for the design, the troop met on a Saturday morning and put their plan into action. Working closely with Scott, Andy & Jared the boys were able to learn how to use tools safety and were able to see their hard work in planning and deign become a reality.
